Jackie Aponte, Instructional Coach

Jacqueline Aponte Cheek: The first in her family to have the opportunity to graduate from a traditional high school and apply to college, Jacqueline’s interest in education was always grounded in a desire to work toward a more equitable education system. As an educator, she first served as an instructor and program assistant for an adult basic literacy program in Raleigh, NC, and later became a middle grades classroom teacher in Durham, NC. She worked for nine years at Maureen Joy Charter School in East Durham, serving as a reading interventionist, middle school social studies teacher, curriculum and assessment writer, and instructional coach.
