Maggie Murphy

Maggie Murphy began her career as an elementary teacher in 2009 after graduating from Appalachian State University. She taught 4th and 5th grade at Moravian Falls in Wilkes County Schools. In order to serve the community of her hometown, Murphy transferred to Piney Creek School in 2012 to teach middle school in Alleghany County. After teaching in middle school for a year, Murphy spent 2 years as an Instructional Coach. In 2015, she returned to middle school and earned her Masters in Instructional Technology and Media. While teaching 7th and 8th grade language arts and social studies, Piney Creek School started a global education program. Murphy led the program and was later named Participate Learning Global Teacher of the Year. In 2019, Murphy was also named Teacher of the Year for Alleghany County and the Northwest Regional North Carolina Teacher of the Year in 2020. She was also awarded the North Carolina Sanford Teacher of the Year in 2020. Murphy is passionate about providing all students with an equitable education.
