Lesson Planning: How AI Can Enhance Your Lesson
Lesson Planning: How AI Can Enhance Your Lesson.
As a beginning teacher, it is easy to constantly struggle with juggling everything from lesson planning to grading to parent communication to PLC meetings…you name it. All of this can feel very overwhelming; like you are trying to keep your head above water. AI can take the guesswork out of things like lesson planning, differentiation/personalized learning and more.
Game Changer for Time and Efficiency
The utilization of AI tools can decrease your planning time and increase your efficiency in daily tasks. As educators, we know all too well the mounting tasks we have on our plates. In addition to teaching students, we are responsible for communicating with families, grading assignments, analyzing student data, attending various meetings, covering before and after school duties, and the list goes on. These tasks often compete with the time commitment needed to address student learning and growth. The right AI tools can help automate or streamline these tasks, which allows teachers to have additional time with student specific duties. Differentiation
As a beginning teacher the idea of trying to meet the needs of all students was daunting. Sometimes you don’t even know where to start. Implementing the use of AI in your lesson planning can be a source of inspiration when thinking about differentiation. Using AI tools such as Chatgpt you can enter a prompt for your lesson focus i.e. “how can I teach force and motion for 5th graders?” In a matter of seconds teachers have access to resources from breaking down content to hands-on investigations to real-life examples and interactive websites.
Additionally, websites like TeacherServer offer teachers AI resources to create lesson plans, experiments, analyze primary documents as well as differentiate lessons for multi-language learners and exceptional children. Developed by faculty at the University of South Florida, Teacher Server is free and created for educators by educators.

Question: Why do you encourage teachers to use AI in daily lesson planning?
Answer: AI is a “God Send!” It has given me so many different ideas and tools to make my instruction engaging as well as accessible to students with various learning needs. This year, I am teaching with a new curriculum and the use of AI has helped me put a personal spin on my lessons. AI allows you to input a specific objective or standard and it will create and design engaging lessons and projects for your students.
Question: What is your go to AI tool and why?
Answer: Magic School AI coupled with Chat GPT are my go to tools. I use Magic School AI to help create lesson plans with student examples and non examples. This helps provide a real world example of the product I am looking for them to create. I also use Magic School AI to draft an outline for student note taking. This tool helps create ready to go slide show presentations for note taking. It includes engaging graphics and simple, easy to digest content, all aligned to the objective you submitted. I use Chat GPT to help formulate essential questions, higher order thinking questions, to ensure I am pushing rigor and depth of knowledge.
Question: What has been the greatest benefit of using AI?
Answer: Implementing AI has decreased my workload, by being able to find resources online using tools that are a one-stop shop. It has truly taken the “guesswork” out of planning. I feel confident in my ability to understand standards and plan student friendly lessons, however AI has served as a co-pilot when it comes to fresh ideas, creativity, and application of objectives to student friendly lesson activities.
