Katie Matthews

Katie Matthews is an Instructional Coach for the New Teacher Support Program (NC NTSP) who improves teachers’ instructional practices to enhance student learning and increase teacher efficacy. Katie believes cultivating authentic relationships focused on collaboration, unwavering support, and shared experiences, positively impacts student achievement and teacher retention. 

Katie utilizes her 26-year classroom experience to create practical professional development series that offer a hands-on approach to be utilized in the classroom immediately.  Currently, she is working towards building coaching strategies and techniques that will help encourage best practices and vestment in the longevity of career educators.

Katie is a National Board-Certified Teacher and was the recipient of the 2018 NC K-6 Presidential Award of Excellence in Math and Science Teaching and a 2015 Burroughs Wellcome Career Award in STEM Teaching awardee. Katie holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Masters of Arts in Education in Curriculum, Instruction and Supervision from UNC-Wilmington.

When not teaching and coaching, Katie can be found cheering for her “home team” at her son’s baseball games and daughter’s golf matches, enjoying time with family on the boat, and hosting family dinners at the creek.
