Todd Stephan
Todd A. Stephan is a Lead Instructional Coach for the North Carolina New Teacher Support Program (NC NTSP) supporting beginning teachers through a collaborative approach with mentors, principals, and district leadership to provide consistent, in-the-moment coaching aligned to individualized growth.
Born and raised in South-Central Connecticut, Todd obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Ithaca College and Master’s Degree in Mathematics from Southern Connecticut State University. From there, Todd’s educational career began teaching high school mathematics. During an 8-year tenure teaching a variety of math courses, he completed a 6th Year Degree in Educational Leadership and relocated to Burlington, NC. For 13 years, he was immersed in administration, 2 years as an assistant principal and 11 as principal of Western Alamance High School. At the same time, Todd completed a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations from UNCG. In 2009, he was inducted into the Ithaca College Athletic Hall of Fame.
In Todd’s spare time, he enjoys reading, spending time with family, and hiking or kayaking. His wife, Heather, is also an educator – they actually met teaching math. They have two children: Carter, 15 and Isabelle, 17. Todd believes teachers can improve their craft with encouragement, new knowledge, skill building, and guidance. He is very excited to bring his teaching and administrative experience to WCU and the Western NC region as a Lead Instructional Coach in support of building new teachers’ capacity.
